I’ve read that you started out making bags for yourself and your friends as a hobby. Could you show us the gold handbag with hot pink lining that you made for yourself?

How differently (or similarly) do you go about designing as a hobby and as a fashion label?
When designing handbags went from being a hobby to a business with a huge number of fans waiting for the next big Desti Saint Handbag design, my passion for keeping my fans happy with my best work ever just grew and grew and my work became 24/7 whether I was immersing myself in the creative inspiration of my personal heaven in Asia or whether I am constantly on a plane to share the new designs with my production teams.
Now that my business is full time – it is indeed true the creative mind never stops working, or is it just no peace for the wicked! I have several projects in creative development which I am so excited about. Now that I design full time I have many exciting projects which I am currently working on, which are really unique, creative, fun, and elegant. Furthermore, the leathers and materials I am planning to use are the results of my search for the essence of new luxury across the world. Each of my Desti Saint Handbag Collections now has a theme and a deeper meaning and story behind it. Each collection fuels my desire to create the perfect bag for my Desti Saint fans to stand out from the crowd.
We have so many positive things going on with the Desti Saint brand and company right now – too numerous to mention actually, but I will say it’s just so exciting and beyond my wildest dreams and aspirations. Having said that I am both whimsical and grounded. I am never satisfied and always pursuing the next most beautiful Desti Saint Handbag design ever – so all I can say is watch this space and check out the Desti Saint website – which is always a great barometer to what is going on next with my company.
Why did you choose to have this entire collection (The Goatskin Collection) made in Goatskin?
Goatskin is a beautiful gift from Mother Nature. It is beautiful to look at, touch, hug and hold. It is also great for hand-etching creative and unique designs. It’s all natural and there is no need for dyes. It’s so beautiful that I just couldn’t resist creating a whole Desti Saint Collection to celebrate the wonders of natural goatskin and Mother Nature.
The Desti Saint label takes pride in the lux materials used to craft its bags. How should customers care for their exquisite Desti Saint bags, like the Goatskin Clutch?
The beauty of genuine leather is that it is naturally endowed with its own unique colour, texture and appearance.
- To keep the leather smooth and scratch-free, keep away from sharp, abrasive and rough surfaces.
- Keep your handbag in great shape. Avoid overloading or overfilling to maintain the strength of the leather and stitching.
- Avoid exposure to water and other liquids. Should the leather become wet, wipe away excess liquid with a clean, soft non-dyed cloth, pack loosely with paper towels and allow to air dry naturally.
- No sunbathing with your handbag. Direct heat and prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause discoloration and hardening of the leather

The next Desti Saint Handbag Collection will be proudly launched to the world in January 2012. The Collection has been created with love and passion. It is called the Maddie Collection after my beloved daughter and it features a contemporary version of the favourite Chinese character – the Double Happiness icon and my signature tassels. The clues are “Double Happiness”, “Maddie” and “Luxury”.
