Maybe you are old enough to remember Moses Lim like us. Yes, he was the patriach of one of the longest running home-grown comedy series ‘Under One Roof’ that we loved so much. With a fatherly voice and a never-say-die attitude, Moses has been the one to grace our Thursday – or was it Tuesday nights, as we gathered with the rest of the extended family in front of our television to chortle as our real-life experiences came to life.

Moses is probably best known for his role as ‘Tan Ah Teck’ in the comedy, and we can never forget his famous tagline  ”This reminds me of a story.” For his effort in Under One Roof, Moses became the first Singaporean actor to win an award at the Asian Television Awards, for Best Male Actor in a Comedy Series. But Moses is more than just an actor, through his period away from television, he is also gourmet, entrepreneur and comedian.

But for Dream Academy‘s latest production, the stand-up comedy Happy Ever Laughter, the veteran actor will be returning to stage once again! On the first time on the Esplanade stage, he will be part of the bevy of talented comedians which include as Selena Tan from Dim Sum Dollies, Kumar and Sebastian Tan, just to name a few that will tickle your toes at the R18 comedy show!

We caught up with Moses to find out how what he has been up to!

We have not seen you for such a long time! What have you been up to?

I have been organising gourmet tours around the world for 19 years, 2 – 3times a year.

What is it like being back on stage in Happy Ever Laughter?

Interesting & exciting though it does take up quite a bit of my time as I travel alot. But nonetheless, I enjoy it.

Have you missed comedy during the time that you were away?

Yes. But since those days, I don’t see any similar comedy that has captured viewers from all walks of life.

What has been the best part of working with the cast of Happy Ever Laughter so far?

It’s wonderful to see familiar faces working together, each of us putting forward our best. Also, through Happy Ever Laughter, I got to know some members of the younger generation plunging into this industry with a different style/approach from my time.

So what can we expect from Moses Lim on the Esplanade stage with Happy Ever Laughter?

Being a chinese educated entertainer doing English standup comedy, I will touch on cross culture differences. I will also talk about Chinese dialect as our younger generation doesn’t really speak dialect and some don’t even understand their own dialect.

In the coming year, what can we expect from you?

I am managing my own Moses Lim Gourmet Club with a growing number of members. I still organise gourmet tours around the world as well as food promotions with hotels. I’m also currently involved in food tasting with an annual-issue restaurant guide. A F&B business is also in the pipeline so we’ll see if that eventually happens this year as well. If Happy Ever Laughter works for me, maybe I will consider getting involved in a stage play if anyone approaches me.

Happy Ever Laughter will start the madness at the Esplanade Theatre from 27 June to 8 July with a strictly limited run. With tickets starting as low as $37, the show will be adding a special late night supper show for all you night-owls at 11pm. And if you catch the show on the supper show on Fridays, you can bring your ticket stub to enjoy 15% discount at SAUCE and/or a 20% discount at LOOLA’S on the same night.
