Too bored of spending the morning at home sleeping? Want to spice up your life by being out at 4am?
The Arts House and Singapore Flyer have come together and given you a new way to spend your morning! Typically, the Singapore Flyer begins operation at 830am. However, with First Light Festival, the Singapore Flyer will be operating from 430-730am on the 24th July 2010.
Initially when the idea was proposed to Singapore Flyer’s managing committee, Mr Jeff Tan thought it was a joke. However, on further consideration, The Arts House’s purpose and idea seemed to have a unique selling point. They wanted the First Light Festival to be a gathering of residents and vistors in Singapore to welcome dawn together, aided by the common language and favourites- music, dance and food. These would help overcome the communication barriers in terms of language and culture.
While in the capsules, there would be live performances some being wayang kulit and storytelling. After alighting, vistors can walk down to have breakfast from 15 different hawker stalls before heading on to their daily activities. If you don’t want to miss out on your morning workout, a mass workout will be held there too!
The main aim of this festival was to bond immigrants with locals. Bringing into the picture hence, is the Orange Ribbon Celebrations which is a month long celebration of racial harmony, a pillar of Singapore’s success. The committee anticipates participation of 5000 people of which 3500 would be receiving free tickets to the Singapore Flyer during the festival while the others may have to purchase tickets at a price of $29.50 for adults and $20.65 for children between the age of 3 and 12.
