This week, I met a super shopper turned retailer, Georgina, in the comfort of her house. I don’t usually do house visits but this time, it was different. The shop, nana & bird, was located in her quaint Tiong Bahru house which she opens on the last Saturday of every month for people to come by and check out her loot!

With a concept much like Stranglets or the other stores located along Ann Siang Hill, nana & bird was started by Georgina (Nickname: Nana) and her friend, Chiew ling (Nickname: Bird). The pair meet up regularly to shop overseas and talent spot upcoming labels to import back to Singapore. The list includes Jonathan Saunders, London-based Scottish designer, and Silence + Noise, found on Urban Outfitters. They not only select unique pieces not found locally but also collaborate with designers overseas for special collections, one of which is a 555 notebook spread with illustrator Celeste Anning.

Both Georgina and Chiewling’s taste can be seen throughout the collection presented. The duo are lovers for quirky accessories, cute prints and rare finds. Some of my personal favourites were the lego brooches and the handcuff bracelets (they really work but isn’t designed with a keyhole!). Along with that was a hazelnut brown leather clutch, designed by The J. Meyers Company for nana & bird.

And since I foresee polka dots being splashed over all fabrics next season, here’s some we saw there that you can get your hands on immediately to stay ahead of the trend!

And more pictures of their cute lego men!

nana & bird is open next Saturday, 19th March from 11am to 6pm. You can find them at 24 Tiong Bahru Road, #04-131. (It’s near the market!) Trot down to get some good buys over the weekend!

You can also find them on facebook or at nanaandbird.com.

Prices range from $50 and above.
